Wallpaper Magazine Features Downs House II

Vancouver Earns Global Recognition for the Most Significant Architecture in the World

Journal Vol. 4

We're proud to announce that West Coast Modern has secured the Downs House II on Wallpaper’s list of the world’s finest examples of modernist architecture.

This inclusion by the global leader in design, art, and culture marks a major moment for Vancouver’s architecture. It positions the West Coast Modern home before millions within Wallpaper’s international community, joining the ranks of world-famous and highly influential icons such as the Guggenheim Museum by Frank Lloyd Wright in New York, Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier in Paris, and the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe in Spain. This recognition solidifies Vancouver’s place among the world’s greatest architecture.

“Modernist architecture defined the 20th century like no other movement. Its midcentury marvels quickly spread across the globe, represented in a multitude of typologies, scales and geographical locations – and giving birth to just as many regional expressions... It is a movement with countless faces, and one that still influences design and architecture like no other. Here, in an evergrowing round-up to celebrate, study and be inspired by its gems, we tour some of the world's finest examples of modernist architecture by continent…”

Hi, this is Trent Rodney, co-founder at West Coast Modern, and I want to share what this recent recognition by the renowned Wallpaper magazine means for the other homes in our collection.

For the first time, we’ve received global recognition for being included among the best architecture in the world. Following the headlines, we’re experiencing unprecedented interest from around the globe.

This recognition doesn’t just elevate one home—it raises the profile of all the homes in our collection. By placing the West Coast Modern home alongside the most iconic and celebrated designs on the planet, it’s introducing our region’s architecture on a global stage to a new international audience.

Those who’ve been acquiring landmark modernist homes in design capitals like London, Tokyo, New York, and Los Angeles are now turning their attention to Vancouver. Over the past few weeks alone, we’ve experienced the highest level of inquiries we’ve ever seen, with millions of new online visitors, a spike across all our channels, and an increase in tour requests for our other offerings. We feel this is signalling the start of a new market for all the homes in our collection.
