preparing for this sunday's tour at the tree house

this weekend, we’re prepping for tours at the tree house and to help enrich your visit, we’re speaking with the current custodians who share some their favourite first-hand experiences.

can you tell us about yourselves?

“jason’s a product management director for a software company. he has a creative background from 11 years at ea. aileen trained as an architect and has been exploring various mediums for 20 years.”

why the tree house?

“few houses embrace the forest like the tree house. each room offers a unique view: the master looks up to ferns, the living room to howe sound through the canopy, the kitchen and dining spaces are bookended by greenery, and the lower level is cozy with views of trunks.”

what drew you to its setting?

“lions bay offers a unique chance to be nestled into a mountainside within moments of howe sound and an easy drive to the city. the forest provides an unmatched backdrop to daily living.”

how did this space inspire your creativity?

“the light and openness of the space – no 8’ ceilings! the openness lets the house and its inhabitants breathe, think, and create in a natural, calming way. the light changes dramatically during the day and through the seasons, enhancing the connection to nature.”

what are people’s reactions when they see the house?

“visitors are astonished by the light and space. architecture friends understand the importance of the building, while artistic friends appreciate the openness and the embrace of the outside. the reaction is uniformly ‘wow.’”

3 key features for future custodians?

“privacy, the embrace of the forest, and flexibility of space. the addition adds square footage and flexibility.”

who do you see as the next custodians of the house?

“we hope the next custodians appreciate the home and its surroundings. it’s a great space for a creative individual, couple, or family who values open interior space that blurs the lines between inside and out.”

experience the tree house for yourself. on tour this sunday.
