Sunset House
Introduction
It was no simple task, but that's exactly what the talented team at Mcleod Bovell Modern Homes had to tackle in taking on this spectacular Semi-waterfront West Vancouver residence. Perched dramatically over steep rocky terrain, the home is set on 15.498 sq.ft. with study in modern organic minimalism. Exhilarating view of the ocean and downtown are amazing but an unexpected focal element is the suspended infinity edge pool boldly hovering 40 feet in the air. The exterior is a sleek seamimgless affair of concrete and clean-edged lines, with board-formed walls. The resulting affect, as intended by the designers, is one of a home that has been skillfully handcrafted and assembled.

“Unlike anything surrounding it, this home’s irregular shape and atypical residential building materials are more akin to modern-day South American projects that stem from their surroundings to show-case concrete’s versatility”
Mcleod Bovell Modern Houses
McLeod Bovell is a collaborative design partnership specializing in complete residential architecture. Their work embraces embedded social, spatial and environmental opportunities as generators for design invention.
Over the last decade, they have gained experience designing houses on steep and irregularly-shaped land. While these areas are often afforded significant views, their immediate natural features may not always be remarkable: neither fully cultivated nor untouched wilderness. Under these conditions, the priority of the view can dominate the discussion. Their work makes efforts to balance the primacy of this view with opportunities afforded by extreme topography that allows for varied and particular programmatic sequences. Creating unusual relationships at different scales of living connects the houses to their surroundings.
Through their process they create work that conveys feeling, specific character, and is receptive to influences beyond our region.
