Lookout House
Presenting The Lookout House.
A modernist lookout tower hidden in a quiet waterfront village, The Lookout House defies convention. Designed in the 1970s by Pat McTaggart, long before he shaped major corporate landmarks, this home was an early exploration of architectural freedom—one that can no longer be replicated.
Clad in cedar with expansive glass walls, the home’s two wings extend toward the ocean, framing breathtaking western views. At its heart, an exposed concrete aggregate fireplace anchors the vaulted living space, where light shifts with the water and sky. Thoughtfully restored yet untouched in essence, The Lookout House is a singular work of art—a rare balance of boldness and restraint.
Now, The Lookout House awaits its next custodian.

Welcome to Pleasantside—A beachside family paradise with a secret.
A quiet waterfront village where life moves at a gentle pace. But hidden within this idyllic setting is something unexpected—a modernist lookout tower.
Before designing major hotels, corporate headquarters and shopping malls, a young architect left behind one private residence. A bold vision from an era of architectural freedom—one that can no longer be replicated.
Fully restored. Undiscovered—until now.
“The beautiful multi-level home, situated on a mountain slope overlooking Burrard Inlet, had been specially designed and built 16 years before to suit the heavily wooded lot. In fact, the house was built around existing trees, and every room was angled to take advantage of the breathtaking view. High ceilings, windows everywhere, and a hedged, sloping backyard made it irresistible.”

Pat McTaggart
Former Architect Associate at Omicron
Like many architects, Pat McTaggart’s journey began with personal passion projects before stepping into the world of large-scale design. Before joining Omicron, one of Western Canada’s largest integrated development, design, and construction firms—responsible for over 8,500 projects—he explored the potential of residential architecture through two private commissions. These homes, one of which he designed for himself and the other, The Lookout House, across the street, became his personal experiments in redefining modern living.
At Omicron, McTaggart was part of a team contributing to a diverse portfolio of commercial, corporate, and mixed-use developments. The firm’s work includes projects for Jaguar-Land Rover, BC Lottery Corporation, Microsoft, Nordstrom Pacific Centre, and Deloitte, as well as multi-family condo communities, hotels, corporate headquarters, and retail spaces.
