Architect's House
Introduction
WEST COAST MODERN presents THE ARCHITECT’S HOUSE by Brad Lamoureux.
Something unusual happens when an architect builds their own home. It's a collection of dreams and passions, condensed into structure. A whole career of influences, decisions and techniques. On a cliffside, the home looks out at the bustling city, the ships coming and going, and the gentle movement of clouds over the Burrard Inlet.
Nothing less than an unconventional approach was required to attend to maximizing views of the ocean, the rocky outcrops, and the trees. The design parti is a “pyramid” set into the granite mirroring the face of the bluff. Stretching along the natural topography in multiple directions represents a functional spreading to maximize light as well as to commune with the landscape, non-invasively.

Style is not prescriptive. They approach projects with no preconceived agenda, believing that the finest design arises from a dynamic process of collaboration with the client. Their projects take on a multitude of forms.
They believe in allowing a home’s site to inspire its architecture, unleashing the potential of a property and creating a home that exists in harmony with its surroundings. The varied and spectacular landscape in and around Vancouver often presents both challenges and opportunities for design, and they have extensive experience with both conquering the steepest sites and maximizing the most luxurious ocean views.
Architecture should inspire. At LAI, residential architecture excites and motivates them every day. They seek to inspire their clients and the community at large, through innovative, beautiful design that enhances our collective environment.
