Carmichael House

Presenting The Carmichael House.

A Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired masterpiece, it stands as one of Ron Thom’s most distinctive works. This rare expression of organic modernism is seamlessly set into a forested mountainside, just 15 minutes from Downtown Vancouver. Designed on a hexagonal grid, the home abandons conventional right angles in favour of expansive sight lines and a seamless connection to its surroundings, where space unfolds with openness and light.

Fully remastered and move-in ready, this architectural landmark offers a rare alternative to high-rise living—a home that elevates rather than confines. Recently unveiled through a global fashion brand under Aritzia’s portfolio, The Carmichael House brings West Coast modernism to a global stage.

Now, it awaits its next custodian.

An architectural landmark, revealed not through a traditional real estate listing, but through the lens of a global fashion brand.

West Coast Modern unveils a Ron Thom-designed masterpiece—Canada’s answer to Frank Lloyd Wright—as the backdrop for Reigning Champ’s international spring campaign. A rare convergence of architecture and fashion, bringing one of Vancouver’s most significant homes to the world stage.

“This is a beautiful Canadian success story. Our region’s fashion scene has gone global, with brands like Lululemon, Aritzia, Arc’teryx, and Reigning Champ paving the way for a new era of talent emerging from Vancouver.

Now, with this release through a fashion lens, we’re telling the world that Vancouver isn’t just about breathtaking nature and world-class fashion—we also have some of the best architecture. Our focus is on ushering in the next generation of the global creative class, following in the footsteps of international design destinations like Los Angeles, Palm Springs, London, and Melbourne. Much like how global buyers—including fashion leaders like Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford—are acquiring Frank Lloyd Wright homes as investments in limited-edition works of art, we see Vancouver as just 10 years behind this next architectural boom.”

Ron Thom, Architect

Canada’s Answer to Frank Lloyd Wright

Ron Thom was born in Penticton in 1923 and studied painting after serving in the RCAF during World War II. He graduated from Vancouver School of Art (now known as Emily Carr University of Art and Design) in 1947. He did not have formal architectural training, but went on to become a registered architect and was eventually made partner before opening his own firm.

Thom was interested in architecture as a complete work of art, from the first inspiration to the execution of the

smallest details. Many of his designs were celebrated and high-profile, such as Massey College, Trent University, and the Shaw Festival Theatre. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1980 for his contributions to architecture and design. His passing in 1986 leaves us with a lasting legacy.
