Container House
Presenting the Container House, a striking blend of our region’s revered west coast modern vernacular and Frank Gehry’s iconic style. Flanked by the serenity of neighbouring parkland and a murmuring creek, the house gracefully combines its modern form with an unhindered connection to the lush outdoors. Its distinctive geometry, defined by four distinct containers, was elevated by a transformative 2013 renovation that introduced corrugated metal cladding as an ode to Gehry’s personal Santa Monica residence. Inside, the main living areas were thoughtfully expanded, enhancing both interior views and access to natural light. This beautifully designed residence represents a captivating chapter in west coast design, ready to welcome its next custodians.

Frank Gehry
A Modern Architectural Icon
Frank Gehry is a Canadian-born American architect and designer, and an icon of architecture. Gehry is synonymous with sculptural, striking designs that feature rippling façades cladded in metal and glass. A number of his buildings, including his private residence in Santa Monica, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, became attractions. His works have been the subject of major surveys at museums including the Centre Pompidou and the Whitney Museum.
In 1989, Gehry received the Pritzker Architecture Prize, where the jury described him:
"Always open to experimentation, he has as well a sureness and maturity that resists, in the same way that Picasso did, being bound either by critical acceptance or his successes. His buildings are juxtaposed collages of spaces and materials that make users appreciative of both the theatre and the back-stage, simultaneously revealed."
Gehry’s work explores fragmentation of the constructed building, a proposition associated with Deconstructivism movement of postmodern architecture. Other notable architects ofthe movement – though many of them reject the label – include Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid.
